Isn’t it amazing that there are actually people out there that think having a degree from East Podunk Community College or Western Yourstate Teacher’s College is better than one from Full Sail or Berklee just because the latter are online?

Those people are very-very wrong. They’re stuck in 1981 I suppose. Everyone and his brother teaches online these days including the likes of Harvard, Oxford, UC Berkeley, Columbia, Stanford, Duke, … everyone – and of course, East Podunk Community College and Western Yourstate Teacher’s College.

Berklee teaches music biz online as does UCLA extension.

Full Sail is accredited by ACCSCT and is recognized by the US Dept of Education and the CHEA as accredited – your “most people” are wrong there too. But, ACCSCT isn’t usually transferable credit. Fact is, not many colleges will have those sort of courses to transfer to anyway.

Full Sail grads don’t seem to have any trouble getting jobs with the real production studios, labels, and industry markets. Some of those recruit specifically for Full Sail grads – I doubt the local community colleges some other people suggest you attend can say the same.

Understand, when you’re looking at places like Full Sail, Berklee, UCLA, et al (even online) in the business – these people are playing for real and are not slack. These are really hard programs to make it through. If you’re thinking you wanna do it online because it will be easier – you’d be mistaken. It will be much harder online. If you’re looking online because they’re the best – go for it.

Ask yourself another question very seriously. This industry probably doesn’t happen in your town unless you’re in NYC, Nashville, or LA. Are you willing to move to find work? If you’re planning on staying in small-town USA and expect to find work with an elite degree in entertainment business – you’ll be saddened. Most people not in the industry have never heard of Full Sail or Berklee Music.
