Summer is a great time of year to visit Southampton! The city is filled with visitors from around the country and around the world to enjoy the warm sunny climate, and the many events that happen every summer in Southampton. The world-famous sporting events such as Cowes Week, or above the Boat Show in the UK, the Boat Show Southampton are just two of the main events in the city.

Cowes Week
Steeped in history and tradition, Cowes Week is the largest annual regatta world and is such an important part of the British summer calendar as Wimbledon and Royal Ascot. Set around the small town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight, boat racing place in the Solent, the stretch of water that runs between Southampton and the Isle of Wight, which attracts over a thousand different ships and around 8,500 competitors.

Cowes may be in the middle of this summer event, but Southampton is a very important part of Cowes Week also provided the port for the ferry crossing through the Solent, additional accommodation, and of course plenty of other attractions too. In 2009, Cowes Week will run from 1 to 8 August.

Southampton Boat Show
Keeping with the nautical theme, the Southampton Boat Show is another top event which takes place every year. Since 1969 the Boat Show Southampton has taken place at Mayflower Park, and is one of the summer in Southampton.

Over 100,000 visitors come to the Southampton Boat Show see over 600 exhibitors who are the major boat builders, business owners and sailing, and enjoy the many attractions and fun events. You can tour the tall ship Lord Nelson, try a free boat, diving, see demonstrations of search and rescue, and let the children go on a boat free, all on the Southampton Boat Show! In 2009, the Southampton Boat Show will be held from 11 to 20 September.

Parks in Southampton
Enjoy the summer in Southampton is not only to attend big events! Southampton has many more attractions that are great to enjoy throughout the summer, including numerous public parks, and may even find that there is a free event going on in one of the parks too!

The common, for example, is one of Top Southampton parks covering an impressive 326 hectares. You'll find an abundance of flora and fauna in this park that has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Pitch and Putt is a great fun in the lazy summer days and there are several parks in Southampton, where you can enjoy a round or two! And if you play Pitch and Putt has you in the mood to play golf, try a round on the 9 hole or 18-hole Municipal Golf Course in Southampton, or in one of the many private golf courses in the Southampton area.

Water Sports in Southampton
Visitors have always wanted to try a variety of water sports will find that summer in Southampton is the perfect time and place to do it! There are numerous sites where you can enroll in courses or just pop in to use the facilities. Southampton Central Aquatic Activities offers courses, while Woodmill Outdoor Center fishing, to canoeing and kayaking courses. Of course, there are always plenty of opportunities for navigation in the Solent as well!
