If I had to navigate a ship around the world, what areas of the oceans could be avoided?

Why?

I would be very interested in going round Cape Horn at the southern tip of South America. The seas are very rough, the currents are strong, and the weather is severe. You should consider the Panama Canal as an alternative. I'd also avoid Somali waters because of pirates.
