Of course, you can have your candles commercially washed, but good to do this work yourself as part of its continuing program of maintenance of ship and become familiar with your boat and what should be done regularly. You also get the satisfaction completing other work yourself.
For more stubborn stains such as grease, rust, etc. a number of cleaning agents available – Make sure read all instructions carefully and never be tough for fear of damaging the fibers of sail – best deal gently two or three times to wash the life out of the candle!
Always rinse thoroughly after applying any cleaning product
We're talking polyester (Dacron) candles here, which for sailing ships Cruising is still the main structure of choice currently used. For more tissues sailing high technology, such as Kevlar, Mylar methods etc. more sophisticated and cleaning agents as necessary.

We spent half hour or so cleaning and washing of the sail that day and then departed for a day's sail in the waters south of Victoria fantastic – Time well spent.
At the end of your day out to ensure that all candles are flaked / rolled carefully and covered. All Nations United-Hank candles are removed in the spring and bent his sailbag. This is also a good time to wash down making sure they are dry before turning back.
