Calming Your World / The pleasure of being an 8 Transformational Retreat at Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, from June 30 to July 7, 2007.

In the past three years, I spent 10 days before each weekend of Labor Day at Villa Sumaya – on Lake Atitlan in Guatemalla with 9 -11 participants. Each was magic in it their own way. Lake Atitlan is one of the last innocent jewels of this world. The combination of this great lake vast, virgin, surrounded by three volcanoes makes it a perfect blend of yin and yang. The lake often changes its color and its not unlikely to start the day with bright sunshine, has a small shower, and after a storm to come, making it look the lake, swim or surf in through it – a meditative experience.

Boats are the only form of transportation around the lake. No cars or road transport and many local people walk. When we take our walks around the lake, often in children or older people who effortlessly walking barefoot and carrying heavy loads on their heads. Gain perspective and appreciation for the look of old world and culture Maya and Lake – that is surrounded in 2 cities with different languages and magnificent costumes.

Villa Sumaya, which is heaven on earth – in Arabic, is a retreat center impeccable which makes it the perfect environment for our retirement. While nothing there reminds you of a five star hotel, the rooms are elegant, clean, simple, convenient and enriching. Among the delicious vegetarian dishes cooked by a local chef, sauna, jacuzzi and gardens, Villa Sumaya is truly a paradise.

The focus on our last three withdrawals has been living in the present through meditation, yoga, qi-gong, participation in community and celebration. This year the focus of the retreat will be as clean our energy, access to our intuition and apply to daily life. Usually begin at 7:00 am with mindful movement and meditation – in the meditation hall. After breakfast we have a morning session and then go for a walk around the lake and back for lunch. After lunch, four hours of free time, you can read, nap, rest, swim or have a body or work session on energy. We met for the afternoon session, which includes meditation and dialogue about the daily lesson. After dinner we usually gather for a movie, chat, community sauna / jacuzzi and sleep – the report is full of many dreams and visits from the energies of the lake …

In general, make a boat trip to the fascinating city of Santiago and Santa Katarina hot springs. Panhachell City, which is 20 minutes by boat from the retreat center. There are always surprises and celebrations unforgettable. When you return to New York I can feel the energy of the lake for a couple of months.
Rereating on Lake Atitlan is a pleasure for the body, mind and soul – in line with the Hopi message of 2001:

Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push the middle of the river keep your eyes open and our heads above water. See who is there with you and celebrate. At the moment we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to an end. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary. Samuel Kirschner (www.livinginthepresent.com) has spent 20 years as a body/mind therapist and a meditation teacher, speaker and author. In the 1980s, he facilitated The New York Healing Circle, which helped thousands of people with HIV live with a sense of peace and self-acceptance. Trained in body-centered psychotherapy, and in the Zen tradition and the Vipassana style of meditation, as well as in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction – by Jon Kabat Zinn), Samuel is in private practice in Manhattan.
