The 92 kilometers takes about 3 hours by normal ferry between the island of any of Wellington on the North Island and Picton on South Island. There is sometimes a "fast" ferries during peak season, but they have speed restrictions in most of them travel through the Marlborough Sounds. The fast ferry would take about a half hour trip.
You could also take a short plane trip from Nelson or Blenheim around $ 90 each way.

Ferry prices.

There are many websites that sell Interisland ferry tickets. You must book during the peak season between December and late February. Bookings during the winter is not really necessary and there are plenty of outlets throughout the year (up 5 per day in high season, weather permitting).
Interisland ferry costs about $ 60 for a pedestrian and return about $ 185 for an individual and return of vehicles (camper prices rise). Keep an eye, as the line of Interislander often offer special deals.

The Journey
