Do you know that the symbols chart describing the best type of seabed for anchoring? Do you want to anchor in stone, clay, coral, or mud? If you go aground, would be safe to go back to a bank or perhaps the action of a hole in your boat? Learn the secrets of the sea bed to help you make these vital decisions.

Your road map seabed features breaks down the type, texture and color. You will always see the bottom type in your letter. Texture or color is often shown to give a better description of the type of fund.

Bottom type

Choose a hard clay or clay bottom for better anchoring of concerns during the night off. His boat anchor dragging in funds that could indicate that the grass, seaweed, rocks or oyster beds. Use a larger anchor plow like a CQR, Bruce, Ročno, or Delta, or put out two anchors in the bottom types such as these.

Texture background

Background texture is soft, hard, sticky, or broken? Grounding is not a concern in the soft sand, soft or sticky mud, algae, or grass. But the rock, coral or rocks could puncture the hull, keel damage, rudder, propeller shaft, or propeller. Be very careful not to back a bank drive before checking, servicing and repair of damages.

Bottom Color

Color is not used as much today, but was vital in the days of the old square riggers. Samples shall be taken from the bottom to come ashore along fog-shrouded coast. Type

S – sand; M — clay; Sh – Deposits; Grs – Grass, K – Seaweed; Rk or RKY – Rocky, CO – Coral; OYS – Oysters, Bld – boulders.

Texture

F or FNE – fine, BK or BRK – break; s or stk – sticky, so either SFT – soft h or resource development human – hard.

Color

WH – White; bl or BK – black, il – yellow; lt – light DK – dark.
