Sailing Down The Mississippi

why am i feeling homesick a lot?
Hi, I’m 18 years old and I’m in the navy. I just got out of high school last year. I lived in a small town called Ridgecrest located in SoCali. There wasn’t anything to do down there. There were a lot of drug problems and high school was a joke. I always wanted to leave that place. Now I’m here in the navy about to sail from Mississippi to San Diego, going through a whole bunch of different ports in South America. I was happy to be out of my hometown for a while, but now I’m really missing it a lot? I’m mostly thinking of my childhood memories when I didn’t have any responsibilities and I could do whatever. My summers there were my best memories. I still won’t forget the 120 degree weather. I’m having flashbacks with things I did a lot over there. Is this normal for people coming out of high school and leaving there hometown?
Even if it was a place you wanted to leave, you still have memories that will be with you forever. You probably have people there that you miss as well. It is perfectly normal. Good luck to you in the Navy.
