Sailing Olympics

Would being in the Jr. Olympics for sailing help me get into the US naval Academy?

so i’m currently a high school freshman, and i’m very interested in the USNA. I plan on taking 3 AP classes in my senior year, but most of them are History and Science (math is not my strong point). my gpa is about 3.5 ( i plan on raising that a lot in the upcoming years) anyway, i know how important physical ability is to your chances of getting in, but i don’t play any school sports. Instead over the summer, i go to a sailing program that is 8 hours a day 4 days a week. We sail very competitively, and i’ve been in the jr. Olympics twice already (it will be 4 times by the time i apply), and i’m in very good physical condition. i plan on taking some leadership roles in my after school activities, and i plan on doing a LOT of volunteering. do you think that i have any chance of getting into the Naval Academy? Would my sailing overshadow the fact that i don’t participate in any school sports? Thanks so much!

It’s a pretty good plan you got but you have to be diverse with sports. Trust me when I tell you this, the USNA takes math VERY SERIOUSLY so if I were you, I would take any tutoring to get that math grade UP. you have to have at least ONE school sport for a full year to even be CONSIDERED for the USNA. AP classes help but that’s not the only thing they look at. the USNA admissions board also conducts Officer interviews and you must also have a nomination from either the President, Vice President, a US Senator, or a US representative. It also helps if you have more than one of the previous people. email me if you have any more questions =]
