phrase/ phrases Independent Clause and Dependent Clause

Directions: Identify each parenthesis group of words as a phrase, an independent clause or dependent clause

1. Although Cara Magellan was Spanish, she began her voyage (around the world under the Spanish flag)

2. (Magellan and her crew) spent more than a year preparing for the voyage.

3. (Magellan recruited a Spanish crew), but Charles I of Spain forced him to take a Portuguese crew instead.

4. the spanish crew was one (which proved to be mutinous); therefore, Magellan spent much time dealing with the mutineers.

5. ( At the tip of south America) Magellan discovered a strait which is now called the Strait of Magellan./

6. (Magellan and her crew sailed westward) across the Pacific Ocean for ninety-eight days without seeing any inhabited land.

7. (they reached Guam on March 6, 1621) after nineteen of the crew had died.

Thank You, and God Bless your souls. :)

you have to say the phrases that are in parentheses as if they were their own sentence. if you think it could be a complete sentence then its independent. if its a fragment of a sentence then its dependent cuz its depending on the other words to make it a complete sentence
