A helmet is the body of a sailboat. It provides the buoyancy that prevents the ship from sinking.
Traditional sailboats are monohulls, but several catamarans Hull and trimarans are becoming more and more popular.
All sailing boats have keels – it's the backbone of the hull. Even multihulls have keels. In a sailboat keel word is also used to refer to the area to be added to the hull to improve its flat side. Fins to use the forward motion of the boat to generate lift. Keels of sailboats have much larger than non sailing hulls.
Most monohulls require ballast, depending on ballast design is 20 to 50 percent of trips. The ballast is often integrated into their keels as large masses of lead or cast iron. This ensures you get the sinker and the bottom possible to improve efficiency. A sailboat keel is made effective by a combination of weight, depth and length.
One does not provide a stabilizing keel effect, it applies a force to capsize. This effect of anxiety to be offset by the hull design.
There are many types of fixed keels including:
Full keel, keel ong, Fin keels, winged keel, bulb keels, bilge keels and Spain.
A monohull is a type of single-hull ship, unlike Multihull vessels which may have two or more individual hulls connected. This is the most common form of ships.
Monohull boats generally are based on ballast for stability, and are sometimes called displacement hulls. This gives the monocoque of a certain slowness, making it less maneuverable and slow. Also more likely to sink if filled with water.
A multihull is a ship with more than a helmet. Multihulls are faster than monohulls because the absence ballast weight is reduced. Designed to be as light as possible, however, that the structure, is also built with flotation chambers. This means that if each crew compartment fills with water, the buoyancy of the hull itself has enough to stay afloat. This absence of ballast also results in a container with higher yields, in terms of speed and maneuverability.
Multihulls are popular for racing and cruising. Until the 1980s most multihull sailboats were built or their owners or builders of boats in a semi-custom.
One disadvantage of a multihull is width, especially when docking.
