Did you ever see Mount Vesuvius smoking?

Morning all. 9:43 here is day.Thought sunny Brisbane and you might like this, it is true. While we were hicthiking in Europe, we were in Rome. We learn that Vesuvius was beginning to spill smoke. We decided it would be "fun" (you fool, when are 19!) So we went to Naples. One thing that always stays in my memory is the incredible site of four U.S. Navy vessels sailing in Naples, all crew on deck in training and was just great to watch. (Goosebump time). Back to Vesivius. We walked up the side, not too far, and the rocks were very, very hot, and sure smoke was pouring. The Italians were ruuning down, we climbed. I am limited to the characters! But then we decided that while we were in Naples, you should go to see the island of Capri and the famous Blue Grotto. So I hopped on the ferry and crossed. Landed in Capri, and was impressive. YA SEE MY QUESTION ON "THE sirens that grew legs.

I've never seen smoking Mount Vesuvius was the few times the area. But I saw Mt. Etna (aka Mongibeddu) outpouring of lava in Sicily in 2003. Also I saw Mt. Erebus in Antarctica smoking and came up with several others, help with testing equipment in 1972.
