Sailing Stories For Children

In Rufus and the biggest diamond in the world, Michael Elsmere creates nothing less than a complete fantasy world of children's literature. Rufus has been told a story from his father about a diamond of a size beyond anyone's dreams. It is waiting to be found, so after lost their parents, Rufus intends to do just that.
It is a journey of total imagination, a journey through some quintessential scenes of experience childhood settings spectacular invention, surely reminiscent of places that many of us could have been. There's a treasure hunt bound for the Spanish America, a journey of adventure aboard ships of the past chivalric romance. But when the mission was redirected as a harbinger discovered by a hero submarine, Africa becomes the destination that Rufus and his companion, Jim, must explore. If only they could read the clues that explain how the horde under sea transformed into a diamond mine on earth.
In Rufus, Michael Elsmere has invented a wonderful colorful character, a boy with an imagination powerful enough to give ideas life and to do so in the most mundane surroundings. The author also avoids cliché at all times. There is no common parts magic potions that appear just as they are required to do exactly what is needed, reducing convenient or aggrandizement, and not the mere description of the scene behind the scenes. Throughout Rufus and the biggest diamond in the world, Michael Elsmere offers elegant prose that provides regularly evocative surprises. It provides a great vehicle beauty to explore the power of imagination, to re-experience the joy of discovery.
Children OK. Rufus is a good boy. He is perhaps the same age as you. It's lost his parents and there are a diamond. There is a sailboat, pirates, treasures, gold, shipwrecks, birds speaking, submarines and electric eels. There egghead who can read things that others can not even see. The maps are redrawn in people's pockets and target new places. There are lions, jungles, snakes, beautiful ladies and witches. There are deserts, oceans, seas, mountains, caves, caverns, stones, stalactites and schools.
And so, Rufus and the world's largest diamond becomes a celebration of the way there. It is gentle, subtle writing to convey really exciting, fast-paced fun. And children, I suspect that some parents, especially those who might lend a bit of tears for genuine nostalgia, might Rufus enjoy reading themselves. It is a book that actually lives on multiple levels, a history that dazzle the young, and a concept that fascinates young once.
But then, Rufus, when you read, you want to read more, because that's what it's Rufus. These imaginary worlds are in themselves bigger, greater, more vivid and more real just because they are imagined.
