Cranchi is a boat building company that was set up in 1866, but wasn’t registered until 1870. The company is based in Italy and was set up by Giovanni Cranchi in his workshop which was on the bank of Lake Como. When the company started out Giovanni Cranchi built boats for the local fishermen on commission.

In 1932 Giovanni Cranchis grandson purchased a factory, to set up his own boatyard, and he began building his first boats. It was from here where his grandson produced some beautiful boats, from his passion and motivation towards a material choice, boat producing techniques, and fine craftsmanship. When the war broke out Giovannis grandson who was also called Giovanni was forced to leave his shipyard and country until 1952, and when he returned he returned to producing boats along with his children.

When re began production Cranchi saw a number of models released which became very popular. These models along with other wooden vessels were the Taunius, Faster, Sbarazzino, and Dinghy. From this Cranchi decided to expand, and the company was set up in Valtellina.

In the next few years Cranchi saw the success of a number of there boats grow. In 1972 the model Pilotina sees 1,550 boats produced. In 1973 the Scout model is produced 500 times over the next five years. Over these years Cranchi sees a wider expansion with the purchase of a boatyard in Piantedo. They also then gain their own water space called the Cranchi Marine Test Centre and it is here that they are able to carry out high specification tests on their new models privately.

Today Cranchi has seen further expansion with development in San Di Nogaro, Colico, and Rogolo. Upon completion in Rogolo Cranchi will be able to support the production of boats longer than 50 feet.
