When to see whales in the Strait of Gibraltar?

I will be sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar on a cruise soon and I have read that there are wales there. Is there a certain time of day I should look through them? Not sure when our ship will be passing through the area, however.

I cruised through the Straight of Gibraltar last November on a NCL cruise. We stopped there and stayed about all day. I did not see any whales and Its not likely that you will because what I did see was hundreds of all types of ships anchored all over the place. With so many ships around its not likely that there will be whales and we did not see any.

I have been on many cruises and have only see whales once and that was off the coast of Maine and Nova Scotia. You really have to watch long and hard to see whales because they do not always jump out of the water and you could easily mistake a wave for a whale. The thing to look for if you are watching for whales is water spouting from their blowhole. The water spouting is visible from about a mile away.

I do recommend taking the tour of the Rock if you stop there. You will be taken up to the top of the Rock and can see for miles. You’ll see all of the ships and also see the monkeys that inhabit the rock and are all over the place.
